contemplating the Scriptures

Acts 2:42-47

Peter, speaking for the other apostles, has interpreted the coming of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost as a sign that the final age, the age of the Church, has begun. Many have turned to Christ and have been baptised.

1 Peter 2:19-25

Even though the readers, as Christians, are seen by their pagan neighbours as socially inferior, the author has urged them to live ethically, as “servants of God”. Now he tells Christian slaves, or servants, how they are to behave and who they are to emulate in their lives.

John 10:1-10

Some religious leaders have questioned Jesus’ healing of a blind man on the Sabbath as being against the Law. He has raised their ire by suggesting that their claim to understand the path to salvation is ill-founded. The way to eternal life is through Christ.
