Exodus 17:1-7
The Israelites have escaped from Egypt and are now wandering in the desert. Earlier they grumbled that they had no food, so God gave them the gift of manna. Now they begin to grumble again.
Romans 5:1-11
Paul has argued that it was Abraham's faith that led God to find him worthy, rather than his obedience to a law. Now Paul tells of the results of the justification that comes through faith in Christ.
John 4:5-42
Jesus has left Judea to return to Galilee. His route takes him through the land of the Samaritans, with whom the Jews never enjoyed good relations.
