Saint Dominic
contemplating the Scriptures

Deuteronomy 30:15-20

The author places our reading on Moses’ lips. He has restated and reinterpreted Mosaic law for farmers and shepherds, laws which God gave to hunter-gatherers on Mount Sinai.

Sirach 15:15-20

Ben Sira has written that God does not cause people to refuse to obey Mosaic law. He has since creation allowed them to decide whether to follows his ways, or not.

1 Corinthians 3:1-9

Paul has heard that there are divisions in the church at Corinth: people have attached themselves to particular leaders because of their eloquence (and other personal traits).

Matthew 5:21-37

Jesus has warned his listeners that they must be more godly than the scribes and Pharisees. Now he tells them how this is possible.
