Saint Dominic
contemplating the Scriptures

Genesis 18:1-15,(21:1-7)

God has promised that he will be God of Abraham and of his descendants. The only obligation God has placed on Abraham is that he, and his male descendants, be circumcised. When God has promised that he will have a son by Sarah, the old man has laughed.

Romans 5:1-8

Paul has argued that it was Abraham's faith that put him in a right relationship with God, rather than his obedience to a law. Now Paul tells of the results of the oneness with God that comes through faith in Christ.

Matthew 9:35-10:8,(9-23)

Matthew has just told us of ten miracles Jesus performed; he has cured people both physically and spiritually. Now he commissions the twelve disciples, giving them authority and power to preach the nearness of the kingdom to all who are receptive to the good news. Their task will not always be easy.
