contemplating the Scriptures

Joshua 3:7-17

Moses has died. God has commanded Joshua, his assistant, and the people of Israel to cross the Jordan into the land which God is giving them.

1 Thessalonians 2:9-13

In Chapter 1, Paul has written “you know what kind of persons we proved to be among you for your sake”. Paul continues his defence of the techniques he used in founding the Thessalonian church months earlier. It is possible that some in the city claimed his methods to be those of popular philosophers and charlatans.

Matthew 23:1-12

Jesus has just silenced his principal critics, the Sadducees and the Pharisees, by showing their lack of understanding of parts of the Old Testament.
