Acts 1:15-17,21-26 The Book of Acts begins by recalling Jesus’ rising from the dead, his appearance to chosen people, and his return to the Father. The disciples have now returned to Jerusalem from the Mount of Olives to await the coming of the Holy Spirit. They are in the upstairs room where they are lodging, praying constantly with a group of women and Jesus’ brothers. 1 John 5:9-13 The author has stated that the Holy Spirit witnesses – testifies – to both Jesus’ baptism and his very human death on the cross. Now he speaks of the testimony of God the Father and of the Son. John 17:6-19 The Last Supper is over; soon Jesus will be arrested in the Garden of Gethsemane. In meditation, he looks up to heaven; he prays to the Father. He has come to earth to provide eternal life to all who believe. Now he prays for the disciples. © 1996-2022 Chris Haslam |
