2 Kings 2:1-12
After many years as God’s agent and champion of his ways in Israel, the northern kingdom, Elijah’s life draws to a close.

Paul has written that, given his dubious past with respect to Christians, it is only by God’s mercy that he is engaged in spreading the good news. Unlike other itinerant preachers, he is completely open about the gospel.

Jesus has foretold his death and resurrection, and that God’s kingdom will begin soon. Peter has recognized that he is the Messiah, the one expected to come to usher in the Kingdom at the end of the era
