Exodus 20:1-17 Through Moses, God has told the people of Israel that if they are to enjoy the special relationship with him of being a “priestly nation and a holy people”, they must obey his voice and keep his covenant. The giving of the Ten Commandments marks the starting point of Israel as a self-defining community. 1 Corinthians 1:18-25 Having heard that there are “quarrels” among members of the church at Corinth, Paul has urged them to be “united in the same mind and the same purpose.” Now he outlines the basis for the Christian community: the seemingly foolish message of the cross. John 2:13-22 Jesus has changed water into wine at the wedding at Cana, graphically revealing his miraculous powers. Now he enters the Temple, and reveals his challenge to conventional religious authority. © 1996-2022 Chris Haslam |
