Jeremiah 23:1-6
Jeremiah has spoken of the disastrous consequences for Israel of being led by unjust kings. Now God promises a new, righteous king, restoration of Israel, and better times to come.
Colossians 1:11-20
The author has given thanks for the hope that his readers have in Christ. Now he prays that they will have strength to endure and to live the Christian life. He seals his prayer with a hymn to the cosmic Christ, the source of all power and life in the church.
Luke 23:33-43
Jesus has been condemned to death. As he suffers the pain of crucifixion and the humiliating taunts of the crowd, one person present recognizes that the promised king has arrived.
