Isaiah 7:10-14 The kings of Syria and Israel are bent on conquering Jerusalem and installing a puppet king on Judah’s throne – one not descended from David. Speaking through Isaiah, God has told Ahaz, King of Judah, to trust in God rather than in human counsel. If Ahaz stands firm in faith, the conquest will fail. Hebrews 10:4-10 Under Jewish law, each year the high priest entered the Holy of Holies on the Day of Atonement to offer sacrifices for the forgiveness of certain sins, but Christ’s sacrifice, his total self-offering, once and for all on the Cross, renders continuation of these sacrifices unnecessary. Luke 1:26-38 Zechariah has been told by an angel that his wife, Elizabeth, will bear a child in her old age. He will be named John. He will be filled with the Holy Spirit, and will “turn many of the people of Israel to the Lord their God ... to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.” Now the angel has another announcement to make. © 1996-2022 Chris Haslam |
