Isaiah 40:1-11 Jerusalem and Judah have been conquered and the leaders of the people have been deported to Babylon. But even in these seemingly hopeless times the prophet has a vision of the future, of God and the heavenly court. Acts 13:14b-26 Paul, on his first missionary journey, has visited Cyprus with Barnabas and John Mark. After proclaiming the good news in synagogues, striking a false prophet blind, and converting the proconsul, they have sailed for Asia Minor. Paul and Barnabas are now in the Antioch that is in central Asia Minor. Luke 1:57-80 Zechariah and Elizabeth are faithful Jews. She is barren and beyond child-bearing age. In the Temple, an angel has appeared to Zechariah, telling him that God will heed his prayers for a child. Elizabeth will bear a son. He “will have joy and gladness, and many will rejoice at his birth”. © 1996-2003 Chris Haslam |
