Numbers 21:4b-9
In the desert, the people of Israel become impatient because, having won a military victory over the local Canaanites, Moses will not force a way through the land of Edom. So they turn southwards, away from Palestine, to go round Edom.
1 Corinthians 1:18-24
Paul has heard that there are divisions and quarrels in the Corinthian church over to whom loyalty is due. Now he says that the only legitimate division is between those who believe and those who do not.
