Isaiah 50:4-9a Our passage is one of four servant songs found in Isaiah. The first begins “Here is my servant, whom I uphold, my chosen ...”. In late Judaism, the servant was seen as the perfect Israelite, one of supreme holiness, a messiah. In the gospels, Jesus identifies himself as the servant (or slave), the one who frees all people. Hebrews 12:1-3 The author has given examples of people who, in Old Testament times, who lacked the promise of eternal life with Christ yet acted on faith in God, and of others who relied on God’s promises for the future. John 13:21-32 Jesus has shown his humility and his love for his disciples, by washing their feet. They should serve each other. He has forewarned them that one of those he has chosen will fail to follow his example. © 1996-2022 Chris Haslam |
